Celebrating nine years of community-driven conservation steered by a robust collaborative

Creating transformative conservation and community impact in Teton Valley, Idaho.

In the summer of 2014 the LOR Foundation convened four Teton Valley nonprofit organizations to work together to design and implement the Teton Creek Corridor project. The organizations shared a goal of leading community-driven change in Teton Valley and recognized the great potential of coordinating their work. The Teton Creek Corridor was identified as a high impact project with the potential to create a landmark conservation project for the Teton Valley while building collaborative capacity amongst the partner organizations and laying the foundation needed to take on other community-level challenges. With support from LOR, these four organizations committed to and began a collaborative effort to implement the Teton Creek Corridor project.

Friends of the Teton River, Teton Valley Trails and Pathways, Teton Valley Land Trust and Valley Advocates for Responsible Development each brought their unique expertise, resources and perspectives to the drawing board and the collaborative began mapping out a community-scale project that would amplify and implement goals in these impact areas:

  1. Pathways and Public Access - Enhance public access to the Teton Creek Corridor via a paved pathway

  2. Continuing Agriculture - Maintain working lands along the corridor

  3. Stream Habitat - Restore and conserve Teton Creek habitat

  4. Riparian Habitat - Restore and conserve riparian and upland habitat adjacent to the creek

  5. Community Development - Re-configure and re-think development along the corridor to make it more aligned with other project goals
